A photocopy/form letter on Ballantine Books letterhead sent in response to a fan letter. The letter thanks David for writing and for his enthusiasm, and apologizes for not sending a personal reply. Tolkien says he has relocated out of Oxford to "the country" in order to focus on writing The Silmarillion, and that he doesn't have time to answer questions.
The letter has Tolkien's signature but it (and the body of the letter) are photocopied with just the date and recipient's name added.
