Tolkien writes to John Roberts, apologising for the delay in publishing the third volume of The Lord of the Rings. He describes the third volume, regrets his failing in not providing an index, and looks forward to putting in order "the legends of the First and Second Ages" and expresses delight that Roberts has enjoyed the book so far. https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/16204/lot/430/[1]
