Details of this letter are not known, but Tolkien used the rear of a letter from the Clerk of the Senate at University of Leeds to write notes on 'Watling Street' (the Milky Way). Bodleian Library remarks that fols. 156-61 contain "notes on references to the Milky Way, sometimes referred to in Middle English texts as Watling Street; fol. 156 is written on the back of a note to Tolkien from the Clerk to the Senate, University of Leeds, 17 Oct 1922".^{See also Chronology, p. 128[1]}
