Tolkien replies to a letter from Maartje Draak, a Professor of Celtic studies he had met the previous year in Holland during their 'Hobbit-Dinner' to which he was the guest of honour. Tolkien thanks her for remembering him and for the included article 'Virgil of Salzburg versus ‘Aethicus Ister’'. He welcomed the article and notes that while it is "hardly fit to be considered a Jury", she has his "vote!" He also remarks on her use of his language (English) and wishes that he could return the honour (Dutch). He informs Draak that he retired at the end of September and that Edith is unwell.
