TCG Letter #2717

From
Dan Davin
To
Kenneth Sisam
Date
27 April 1949
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Unknown
Dan Davin, Assistant Secretary and Academic Publisher at OUP, writes to Kenneth Sisam on the subject of E.V. Gordon's Pearl. Tolkien has not yet supplied the work he promised for it. He also notes that Tolkien has not answered a letter regarding his and Gordon's edition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. It is being reprinted, and he had been asked if there were corrections to be included. If Davin has not heard anything from Tolkien in the coming days, he will instruct the printer to progress without any.

He also sympathizes with Sisam on the Clarendon Chaucer which has remained unfinished for many years. He believes that meeting with Tolkien to discuss it would be worthwhile.
Notes
We have no record of this letter and no record of any letters between Tolkien and Davin from this letter to 13 June of the same year, but Davin and Tolkien meet on that date and Tolkien agrees to return all the material for the Clarendon Chaucer. He also promises to supply corrections to Sir Gawain and provide the work for Pearl. See Chronology, p. 371.
