Katharine Farrer writes to Tolkien. She and her husband are both delighted, and excited, to hear that Tolkien will publish The Silmarillion. She asks about the origins of the name Pantucker and forwards a fan letterThis letter has for now not been entered into the guide as we do not have any firm date for it.[1] about The Hobbit from Oxford professor of religion L.W. Grensted.

*No firm date is known for the letter. Chronology gives "?Late autumn 1949–?early 1950" and the Bodleian suggests "?1950".
