TCG Letter #2814

From
Stanley Unwin
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
6 November 1950
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Unknown
Stanley Unwin writes to Tolkien to ask if he has made arrangements for the publication of his translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. He would like GA&U to be given the opportunity to consider it. He also remarks that Rayner, his son, has seen the Pearl galley proofs at Balckwell's.
Notes
The Pearl galleys are from c. 1944.

We do not know if Stanley Unwin's inquiry is in part connected to a Letter from Susan Dagnall to Stanley Unwin • 1 November 1950 (#2812), but given the proximity to that letter, it is not unreasonable to assume that Sir Gawain might also have been mentioned to him at that time.In Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Stanley Unwin • 13 November 1950 (#2821) it becomes clear that Stanley Unwin's letter is connected to the earlier one from Susan Dagnall.[1]
