Tolkien expresses reluctance to create drawings of hobbits and suggests leaving such tasks to someone with artistic skills. He provides a description of a hobbit as a fairly human figure with a jovial face, slightly pointed and "elvish" ears, short and curling brown hair, and feet covered with brown hairy fur. Tolkien acknowledges receipt of 6 further copies of The Hobbit (and that more are coming), and a copy of the advertisement (presumably for The Hobbit).
