Autograph Letter Signed
Tolkien writes to Lionel Salt, the Bursar at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge to apologise that he must miss a play as Christopher, his son was having an operation for appendicitus. He mentions this not helping his effort to clear his debts, but he has a book coming out (The Hobbit), so he hopes to be on an "even keel" one day. He concludes that the last three years have been rough financially.
