Tolkien declines an invitation to a program on November 30th titled "An Afternoon in Middle-earth", at the Midlands Art Centre, but mentions some of his connections to the West Midlands. He declares himself ever 'a Birmingham man'.
Notes

Joy Hill from George Allen & Unwin and Tom Shippey did attend the conference. Joy was very impressed with Tom's talk and showed his paper to Tolkien.

Parts of this letter have been published in the booklet An Afternoon in Middle-earth (Studio Theatre, Midlands Arts Centre, Cannon Hill, 1969).
