Notes
Joy Hill from George Allen & Unwin had attended a
Tolkien
conference that Tom Shippey spoke at, and took a copy of his presentation to show to Tolkien.
The first publication of excerpts from the letter are to be found in
The Road to Middle-earth
, 1992 (2nd ed.), p. xv and another excerpt was published in
Lembas Extra 1995
.
