J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', distant prelude to 'The Lord of The Rings'. 1956, the 8th impression overall, and the 4th impression of the second edition, with colour frontispiece and black & white illustrations by the author. Spine somewhat faded with slight lean. Ghosting of jacket design to portion of rear board, otherwise green cloth binding with light edgewear only (editions after this one replaced this cloth binding with green hardboards of textured cloth-appearance). Shortly into the production of the 7th impression, publisher George Allen & Unwin increased the price to 12s/6d, presumably as a result of burgeoning demand following the newly released 'Lord of The Rings'. The publisher clipped the remaining seventh impression dustjackets and overprinted their new price; so this is an 8th impression book within a publisher-adjusted 7th impression dust-jacket, as issued. Jacket with substantial chips of loss to head & tail of jacket, with some edgewear, housed within removable protective sleeve, with the portions of loss provided in facsimile. 315pp, 18.9cm tall. Special delivery within the UK included.GSP only outside of the UK - Apologies to those whom GSP does not serve.Let me know if you have any queries.
