This hardback book, published in the United Kingdom by George Allen & Unwin Ltd Museum Street London, is a rare find for collectors and fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world. With its beautiful illustrations by the author himself, this 1st edition, 4th impression book is a treasure for any bookshelf. The 312-page book, printed in 1946, is in its original form and has not been reproduced. It is a must-have for fans of the Lord of the Rings series and the fantasy fiction genre in general. Don't miss your chance to own this wonderful piece of literary history. A very clean example of a scarce 1st edition, 4th and last printing on war time paper. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.1946 This was the final impression of the 1st edition, before significant text revisions, particularly regarding Bilbo's encounter with Gollum that results in his acquiring the Ring. These changes were undertaken by the author prior to the 2nd edition being released in 1951. The revisions align the Hobbit narrative with that in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which itself was shortly to be published for the first time, in 1954. Opposite the title page is a colour illustration The Hill : Hobbiton-across-the-water. All eight black and white illustrations by the author are present and in Excellent Condition. "Thror's Map" in black and red on the front inner & "Map of Wilderland" in black and red on the back inner in Excellent Condition. The boards are in Excellent Condition no marks, stains etc The Spine is in Excellent Condition tiny amount of wear at the corner tips. Front & Back Inner Hinges are in Excellent Condition. The 312 pages are all in Excellent condition they look unread. The outer edges of the pages are all clean in Excellent Condition.. The images should show all of the above details. We have noticed that the first 7 pages in the bottom right corner have a rippling effect in the paper not sure what has caused this hardly noticeable. See the title page image 4. If you need any further info or images please let us know.
