For sale is a completely revised new edition of Beowulf and The Finnsburg Fragment by John R. Clark Hall published by Allen & Unwin in 1940.This edition also has an introduction by C.L.Wrenn and a preface by J.R.R. Tolkien which is described as prefatory remarks and amounts to about 35 pages. In addition there is a review slip enclosed so the recipient was presumably given the copy free in the hope of a favourable review. The book is mostly clean and bright with bold black titles to the spine and no inscriptions. The top edges are tinted and the edges are generally clean. The text block is tight and square The jacket is complete with price. There is some discolouration and fading and wear at the edges but condition is very good considering the book's age. This is quite a scarce item, especially in such good condition. Postage will be Royal Mail special delivery
