Condition: Some wear and tear. Neat inscription. generally good.
For sale is The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien published by Allen & Unwin in 1954. This is a 2nd edition, 6th impression as indicated by the book and the jacket. The book has heavily discoloured boards and the edges are somewhat dirty and stained but the text block is tight and the contents are free from marks apart from a neat inscription which is discreetly written at the top of the first blank leaf behind the front endpaper. The jacket is presumably price clipped but still shows the book's price (9s. 6d. net) and other publishing information at the bottom of the rear flap. The jacket has a number of nicks around the edges and especially at the top. There are a few small tears generally and two larger tears around the folds, one is 8cm long. and both have been repaired with tape. Also there is much staining. Nevertheless there is very little loss. I have provided a paper/film cover for the jacket which is easily removed but does give protection and enhances the book's appearance. Over all, despite its faults, the book is a good sound example of an early impression.Postage will be Royal Mail special delivery.
