here we have a first edition, second printing hard cover copy of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit," published in 1937 by George Allen & Unwin. There was originally 2300 Copies printed of which 423 was destroyed at the bombing of the wearhouse of the key binder in london November 1940.
This was first printed to convert four of the authors black and white illustration plates to color.
These were commissioned for and published in the American edition. Which are selling for for £4000.000+
This is a very good_ good Copy. There's Some minor bumps on the corners. There's some discolouration on the cloth. There's some marks on the cloth ( little white dots at the top) . there's some fraying on the bottom of the spine. Inside the book it's extremely good with only a few dots of foxing. There's also a thumb print on the third page. Throughout the book is in perfect condition. Please study the photos provided as they form the main description.
