Condition: Very Good Original in Correct Dust Jacket
The Hobbit or there and back again By J R R Tolkien George Allen & Unwin Ltd, London: 1956 First Edition - Eighth Impression Very Nice Correct Original Dust Jacket **Very Scarce & Highly Collectable** I am delighted to offer for auction a book that needs little introduction 'The Hobbit or there and back again' by J R R Tolkien. Published originally in 1937 and easily one of the most collected books of all time this is a very early 1st edition / 8th impression from 1956. Not only is this early the book presents in very nice condition indeed retaining the correct original dust jacket that has been with the book since new. The jacket is also in super condition so will not disappoint. A notable and worthy collectable sought after worldwide, certainly becoming very difficult to find in its original form. The Hobbit - 1956. The book is bound in the publishers original green cloth covers with nice decorations and titles. A truly beautiful example with minimal signs of age or wear as it has been protected well by the dust jacket for the last 65 years or so. One small age dot to the front and back boards with a trace of sunning to the top edge and spine else superb. Clean, bright and fresh with nice sharp corners and tips. Internally the book is again superior and it is completely free of owner names or inscription etc. Beautiful colour frontis with further illustrations by the author. Bright and clean pages throughout with no marks to the page block, it really is very nice. Mapped end papers as called for and of course all very tightly bound. A stunner. The dust jacket which is original to the book is in very good order and it correctly states 8th impression. It has not been clipped which is another plus so still shows 12s 6d net. Condition wise this is a very good example with really nice bright colours on the whole. Light toning to the spine strip and upper flap edges with a little nibbling to the spine tips and one small split. Please view my photos for a better view as it shows they show the jacket and book in all their glory. A gorgeous and scarce collectors piece worthy of anyone's shelf. I also have a very nice Return Of The King listed in a very nice dust jacket listed so why not have a browse. This is one of a few dozen collectable and classic books i am listing over the coming weeks so please have a check through my other listings. Swift, secure postage assured Worldwide.
