This one is unusual, I was looking at the pictures and the white box at the bottom looked strange, price-clipped means removing the price, are there words for deleting bar-codes?

This could be a printing error and the bar-code was not applied

It's the Guild Publishing edition, so possibly didn't have a bar code.

Book club editions sometimes lack bar codes or jacket prices because they're sold outside of the mainstream market. And yet, we have the first printing of the Guild Publishing edition (1987), and a bar code is present!

This has dropped quite a bit in price, though I wouldn't even spend $50 on it. I might buy it for $5. :)

And this is a strong contender for the worst-laid-out description I've seen.

What's going on here?

The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien (Hardback, 1992, Centenary edition) (Current bid: £92)

This description only has:-

THE SILMARILLION
J.R.R. TOLKIEN
Hardback Centenary Edition (1992)
Excellent condition

The photo is perhaps a stock picture too.

With the knowledge that this edition ran into several impressions, of which this could be one, one has to ask, simply --why?

I bid on this but quit when it went above the price of one on Abebooks. If it was shill bidding I would probably have been offered it as a 'second chance' and I haven't (yet).

Bought this book with the same sketch and signed a few weeks ago with DJ for far far far less.
