I hope that is it. As I mentioned before, I had emailed HC twice. First about the design and the pointlessness of releasing a deluxe edition that 1) does not match the existing deluxe editions and 2) is more expensive than the current box set. I suggested they should have used Tolkien's elvish heraldic motifs for the foil stamping on the book covers rather than the JRRT sigil, and make the box at least match the other two boxes they released previously. They said they passed my message on to the publishing team.

My second email was to ask them what's the deal with the Out of Stock status. But I haven't heard back from them on this one yet.

I'm very curious to see pics of the set that remy received. It may shed some light on what the error might be.

So there is a review of this set on Amazon UK now. Seems positive, tight fit for the books and no curve on the slipcase were the two main complaints. No pics yet.

Worth noting that the reviewer seems to write a lot of glowing reviews (almost all five stars).

Can you share some pics?

Hi,

Apologies for delay. Not going to be a huge help with pics as I have decided to keep the set shrinkwrapped.

But I have attached a few pics of the external box set.

Edited the previous post to try and get the correct orientation of the photos.

I don't think I would be very happy with that box-set, are you sure the slipcase is not damaged, on the side with the blurb? Could be to do with the shrink-wrap I suppose.

Can't detect any damage anywhere to boxset other than the very severe crease in the paper insert. Shrinkwrap can certainly give a false impression in a photo.

Our copy was like that too, but the box is not damaged. We were annoyed that the sheet was creased, as we've always laid these in, but there's an identical sheet already in the box.

Have you noticed any obvious issues with the box-set, the only printing error that has been mentioned so far is a crease on the blurb sheet?

I notice that amazon.co.uk are stating that it is in stock now.

To which other two boxes do you refer exactly?

Also, can anyone confirm the impression/printing number on their copy? Assuming the set was reprinted because of a quality issue, are the new copies a second impression?

I remain unable to see the point of this set. Just whip the dustjackets off your existing set, and et. voila!

The existing set even has ribbon markers, which I had forgotten.

I'd be interested in whether the slipcase on the new set is less flimsy than the old set (although it is hard to see any normal-production slipcase being really up to the weight of these three volumes).
