It is with great sadness to announce that Roger Garland died this morning after a fight with illness.
A superb artist with amazing talents and one of my favourites. Had numerous exchanges over the years.

That is such sad news. All the best to his family and friends.
Roger was one of the very best Tolkien illustrators, that sadly was overlooked after HarperCollins bought Unwin Hyman.
I agree, a sad loss.

That is so sad to hear; the world of Tolkien is greatly enriched because of him. Thought I'd share a few covers his work has graced.
This is a real surprise. I had been looking at his drawings & sketches that he drafted up for all those Tolkien covers just the other day. Great, great illustrator.

A real shame. Fantastic artist. I think it was the 1989 calendar that had his illustrations in, and was a favourite. So much more vibrance and interest than some of the later illustrators.
