This is about what kind of tv show we want though. I want a show about the melancholy of mortality, what it inspires in us, about sealonging, travelling, the slow rise and fall of numenor, about how the mirdain are tricked. I want real rain and mud and trees and no glamorous filters. Action as spice not as the main dish...and real action not slowmo scenes of elves catching arrows midflight.

This is what I would like too. If done well, it could captivate audiences and be just as successful as an action fantasy series (I think).

I think Jackson opened the door, and we are now heading towards the TCU. I think cartoon-action is what brings the most viewers and the MCU is evidence of this. We live in the age of instant gratification and continuous upping of the ante. The next generation will think Tolkien in bookform is slow and boring with some nice inpiration for great tv-shows.

I hope the TCU doesn't happen (I really dislike the term), even though it probably will because it's way easier to make money by exploiting a proven IP than by creating an original work. They can write anything, put a Middle-earth disguise on it and attach Tolkien's prestigious name to it, and suddenly they have guaranteed media attention and thousands of viewers.

Dinner scene including (most likely) Durin IV, Elrond, Celebrimbor, Galadriel, Gil-Galad and maybe Miriel.

The article is so schizophrenic, it constantly harks to Tolkien, yet points out that this is not Tolkien as has ever been seen on screen and then finishes with Payne and McKay declaring they were passengers.

Either the article writer could not find what the show was all about or the showrunners don't know themselves.

It is always nice to see artwork by John Howe.

That is a really great cover. I didn't think much of the article itself but that cover is worth the price alone.

Howe's style is unmistakable, you would know it's a his even without the signature.

A wonderful piece indeed.
