First plate edition, this limited edition is number 143 of the first 1000 copies off the press of the first edition of the Silmarillion. Hardback with slip-in presentation sleeve. Bound in red covers with gilt titles to spine and monogram. Fine.
The book and cover is in excellent condition. The dust cover has small minor pen marks. The book has no evident damage or repairs, no tears and no foxing. The map at the back has been folded back slightly incorrectly but still fits the parameters of the book. The gilt-edging is still in very good condition.
Estimate 300 GBP - 500 GBP Sold for 4,625 GBP including fees
I think there are a number of folk who feel it is a must have and will compete to get it.
£10K for an unsigned one?
I just cannot see it - but cannot understand the Longman's prices either - and it you were to equate silly price longmans to this - then I suppose you could get to £10K
