Oh, of course they were! (I feel doubly foolish because those are the only editions I own and I remember remarking at the time that their chosen typeface struggled with some of the more unique characters and had to resort to image insertions)

I will look forward with interest to the videos from the collectors/scholars here comparing the various editions once the first box set is out.

Indeed, The 1994 reset of LR introduced many typos, and around 30 persisted till today. The ebook version of any Tolkien books with multiple non ASCII letters (LR, L, HH, and especially HoMe) contains scores if not hundreds of mistakes.

Descriptive Bibliography indicates perhaps more than 100 corrections are made in late impressions of HoMe. It would be interesting to see which text they'll use for this edition.

BTW, I note HoMe 12 ebook made 3 corrections to the text. Could someone help to check the recent printings to see if they are incorporated there too?
