You’re right though: nothing official. Just their publication history to base that off of.

In the future please do not speculate without evidence and pass it off as fact or "the most likely outcome" if you have nothing to go on. Looking at what a publisher has done in the past with other volumes outside of the series talked about here is not helpful and only spreads misinformation. It does a disservice for members who come here looking for accurate info.

Let me better explain, sorry.

These have new ISBNs because these two titles (Beren and Luthien and The Fall of Gondolin) are new to this particular style. (I'm guessing no artwork, except for black and white sketches? It doesn't say 'illustrated by Alan Lee' on the cover, that's how I got there.) Well, The Children of Hurin has existed in that style since 2014 - but, the cover is different than these maroon covers. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if the publisher merely uses that exact same ISBN for The Children of Hurin, but changes the cover to match these new versions of the other two.

I gave other examples in my other comment to show that this concept it not new to them: some of which were quite recent.

By the way, the 2014 Children of Hurin I'm referring to is this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Children-H%C3%BArin-J-R-Tolkien/dp/0007597339/ref=sr_1_1?crid=ZUWX45VU1HYX&keywords=hurin&qid=1698754615&s=books&sprefix=hurin%2Cstripbooks%2C143&sr=1-1

I see what you are saying. And yes - Only COH exists in this size format previously.

So it is plausible that they may use the same ISBN again - but it is hard to be certain!

Ah, gotcha - didn't mean to present my thoughts as fact or anything, just sharing my opinion/thoughts. I understand wanting to keep things official on here, given the nature of the site.

We'll see, though - as established that's the likely outcome. Once the CoH edition, please confirm :) (I'm curious if I 'called it' )

Could we get a shot of the spines? I'm curious if they are similar in style to last years Hobbit/LotR releases (ISBN: 9780261103566 for the boxset version).

Looks sharp! I didn’t see it mentioned here (if it was and I missed it: oops) but is the only artwork present the black and white sketches?

Thanks Trotter

And yes, only black and white sketches...

I asked HarperCollins about the UK release of The Children of Húrin in this style.

  • The Children of Húrin will be getting a red paperback cover in the UK as soon as the current black stock has sold out, probably in January. Our new range of Tolkien paperbacks will all have the signature at the top, whereas Morrow have it at the bottom.

So I’m right?! Nice!

I mean: thanks for posting that, Trotter! Wait: does that it’ll be listed under the same ISBN? I think that’s what a few (myself included) are wondering.
