The Lord of the Rings, 3 vol., first editions, first impressions, The Return of the King with signature mark '4' and text block sagging, folding map at end of each vol., ink gift inscription in the year of publication on each front endpaper, light tape staining on endpapers, The Two Towers endpapers with light toning strip, original cloth, fine, dust-jackets, very light scuffing to corners, jacket spine lightly creased, otherwise a bright, crisp, and excellent set, [Hammond & Anderson A5], 8vo, 1954-55.

The Silmarillion, one of 1000 copies, "collector's edition", numbered plate laid down on front free endpapers as issued, light foxing to edges occasionally straying onto margins, original red morocco with JRRT monogram blind-stamped in gilt on upper cover, spine faded, a few soiling patches, slip-case, [Hammond & Anderson A15h.], 8vo, 1977 [but 1978(sic)].

Thanks Trotter. I haven't worked on my SD inventory recently but still have my file ready for new entries. Would be interested to know about this limitation number.

Nicest 1st impressions I seen come up for auction since I started following Tolkien collecting. Looks like one of those old Tolkien Library sets.
