Is £45 for the kindle a little steep ? Or am I just being a Scrooge ?

I'm waiting for it to be reduced or on sale from Amazon. £45 is a lot more than the US price, so I expect it to be reduced.

My copy arrived today and it is all as it should be. No faded pages. In fact the text is very solid throughout.

The design is genuinely lovely. We are quick to pull HarperCollins up at times. Whoever designed this set deserves credit for that.

Appendix IV. Word Lists

**+ Tybalt (Tybert) Prince of Cats [Note 14]

[Note] 14.

Tybalt, or Tibert, is a character in the popular story of Reynard the Fox.

The form ‘Tybert’, with ‘y’ could be found, for example, in:
The history of Reynard the Fox, translated and printed by William Caxton. June 1481. Edited by Edward Arber. 1880
https://archive.org/details/TheHistory ... age/n59/mode/2up?q=Tybert

See also https://www.jstor.org/stable/4174401, p. 354:
‘Although the title, "Prince of Cats," does not appear in Reynard, Tibert is introduced in chapter 10 as "Sir Tibert.’

My copy has recently arrived. Volume one has 19 faded pages all within first 100 of pages. Volume 2 has only 3 faded pages at the very end. Volume 3 has no faded pages, but page 1105 has something I’d call an exfoliation in the lower part of the page. It’s like an upper layer of the page was torn a bit or it was initially produced faulty. Not the full page but only one of its layers - a very thin piece of paper is detaching and attaching back to the page.

At this point I’m already used to get every other new Tolkien book from HC with issues, so it was not a big surprise for me. I think I can live with it for 45 GBP. I only hope their next release (250 GBP LOTR in 3 volumes) will be of a better quality.

Depressing from Harper Collins once again. I see a report that the goldlettering on the spines is damaged by reading also....anyone here experience that?

I received my William Morrow set today and quick thumb through didn't reveal any defects. In fact, the quality and feel of the books surpassed my expectations! The slight gap in the slipcase annoys me aesthetically, but it is easier to get the books out admittedly.

It almost feels as if they’re trying to push people to e-books: printing issues? Letters coming off?? Like…. 🤷‍♂️

August “Turambar and Glorund”

William Morrow set is here and it’s spectacular! Couldn’t be more thrilled with the sewn binding, frontispieces, box, etc…identical in every way to the HarperCollins except for the copyright pages. No issues with my set at all.

Mine just arrived today from Amazon Germany. No defects at all that I can determine with a quick inspection. The books all appear to have identical blue spines, no faded text anywhere, no bumps/tears. They seem like a decent quality trade edition.

Edit: looks like 812 pages printed light in volume one. No problems in vol 2 or 3. Not bad enough for me to return as it is a small number of pages and they are readable (wouldn't want them any lighter though). Couldn't see any ink splodges anywhere.

Was going to give this a swerve but changed my mind after seeing the review on here.

Glad I did - lovely set.

And no quality issues that I could see.
