Pauline Baynes Tolkien Tea Towel

Hi, I have had in my possession for many years a Tolkien Tea Towel with illustrations by Pauline Baynes.

It is in colour on Irish Linen and it has been folded in the envelope it was sent in from 1988, I would say that it is in very good condition. While I have no written evidence to support its provenance I did in fact receive it from the family of Christopher Tolkien through an old family friend who taught at Stonyhurst.

I am trying to find a likely value at which to sell it, would anyone have an idea on what it would realistically fetch?

Many thanks
Mal

I was recently asked for a price for this, they are very rare items.

You could expect to get between £200-£300 for one.

The Pauline Baynes poster and paper maps remain desirable and those are much more common than these, I would agree with Trotter on value and wouldn't be surprised if it got more than that.

A few of these were made as a trial for a possible line of merchandise, but they were not approved for full scale production.

One was offered for sale many years ago (by Daeron's Books I think).

It is one of those things that could be worth £50 or £500, depending on who is looking for something unusual at the time.
