(1st impressions)
I got a fantastic set of these (also 1sts) in July for $60, so it can be had for much less.
The exact same set? HoughtonMifflin or HarperCollins?
Sorry, no. Mine's the US version. Were there many more printed in the US? Or more demand in UK?

No idea on the print numbers for each, assuming more for the HMH boxset over the HC boxset as the U.S. is a bigger market. The only difference between the two is that the HMH box has rounded cut outs and the HC box does not. Also the HMH set did have reprints where the HC set did not...

Worth saying, this was incorrectly described as the first print of the second edition, when it should have been described as the second print (assuming it was the copy I noticed the other day). Was overpriced for a 54, IMHO.
Can’t see the listing now, so possible I’m mistaken.

You're right definitely right about the listing mistake as stating a 1st printing of the 2nd US edition. The '54 is a 2nd printing of the 2nd edition and one could argue a 3rd as there are two states of 5th printing ('51 and '53 states)
As far as the price, difficult to say as these come up so infrequently and even less so in very good condition. Seems high to me as well...but hard to say.
FWIW I paid far less for my '54 but that was a long time ago when demand was much lower...
