FWIW, I now know of several people returning them for a refund due to these kinds of faults.

Thanks for letting me know! That makes me a tad bit more relieved! It probably won't be much trouble to return it. Honestly, these don't feel like faults, not in the sense that these were undesired outcomes. It very much feels like they're there by design.

I’m not sure ‘by design’. More that they are built to a low price point, given the books are basically the same as a set they sell for £125. At that price, the issues would be annoying, but ‘meh’.

Exactly. When I said "by design", I meant to say that it's almost as if Harper Collins expected those problems to be there, and hoped that people just wouldn't care.

They allowed a refund, which is quite nice. Problem is, I'll have to send it. I hope they pay for shipping costs. Otherwise, I'll send it in only the inner box for a cheaper price. And out of spite, too.

If the set is genuinely faulty, HC should cover the return costs. I would counsel against sending only the inner box and contents back, as they could legitimately not refund you if you knowingly sent the set back in manner that resulted in it being destroyed in transit. I'd have that discussion with them directly and figure out the best solution for the return.

I jest. Kinda. Sorta. They do seem to recognize the set is faulty, considering I was offered a partial refund to keep it. It doesn't appeal to me, though. It's the standard procedure, it seems. With last year's LE from their brazilian branch, I was offered a discount coupon for my troubles. Anyway, I answered that I would much rather get a refund and asked them if the shipping costs will be covered.

I am not saying that I have a huge man crush on Alan Lee, but I would not be so vulgar as to deny it either.

He is really so kind and soft-spoken and I feel very inspired by a lot of the things he said, such as drawing for pleasure at a coffe place while eating breakfast.

Got my refund. Harper Collins did NOT cover the shipping costs, which were huge due to the sheer size of the box. Lol. Lmao, even.

HarperCollins are bound by the UK Consumer Rights Act and must refund your costs.
