You know, I have never felt interested in non-Middle Earth stuff that Tolkien wrote, but the latest two boxes with such materials, including the upcoming deluxe editions of the expanded letters have made me revise this stance. Looks gorgeous.
I don't think the materials are going to be anything special here -- same as Boxed Set #1, I'd imagine, but the design choices on that set and this one look to be good. I'm curious as to what the covers of A&I and Kullervo will be. I assume applicable stock photography with some editing, which has worked out well before (Gawain, S&G, etc).
I think the cover of A&I is the tapestry from the Louvre.
I suspect so too. They used stock photography of historic pieces (carvings, etc) on the prior books (sources listed on the bottom of the boxed set, IIRC, but not attributed on the original prints).
I have just recently really accelerated my Tolkien book collecting and have picked up all of the other centenary boxed sets, so I am really looking forward to this one!
Not saying I had anything to do with this, but if there is a HarperCollins Santa reading our Tolkien wishlists, this was a wonderful Christmas present!

You may have done, I expect your comments were considered.
I am very excited for this box. I have really enjoyed these standard hardcover boxes and this one including a couple of harder to find items, or really one (OEE) but Finn & Hengest included as well is a great touch too. Now we need a Perilous Realm standard box and I think we will have most of the major titles covered.
I am also highly excited for this box. Well done Harper Collins. I have to say that that this era has brought forth some stunning Tolkien publications and now this one to joyously add to a long list.

I love it when publishers do proper market research and listen to dedicated fans. Thank you for posting this idea those months ago.
