Yeah, I hadn't specifically recalled the other variant coming up either, when I checked on tolkienbooks.us before buying it (thanks for the resource, Berelach!). Has to be said, I don't look on ebay.ca THAT often, so it may just be that I missed them.

I'm saying the slipcase itself says "BOXED SET" on the side of it.
3rd Impression (1936), have not seen a third with the axe colored gold before. Seems to be a new variant.
