Vera Grigorievna Kulish. Journey into a Fairy Tale. Moscow: AST; Donetsk: Stalker, 2005. The collection published in Ukraine and Russia includes recaps of English fairy tales as well as tasks for children. After the biography of ‘Tolkein’ (in Russian, e.g. ‘Hobbit’ was made of ‘Homo’+‘Rabbit’) there is a retelling of The Hobbit in which back translation from Russian is obviously used. Here are some passages:

His mother – Belladonna Took had many relatives among elves;
Once he met an old magician Gandalf whom everybody considered to be dead;
Dragon Smog who lived in the Lonely Mountain behind the Black Wood, the Foggy Mountains and the Dragon’s Desert;
He brought all friends to the Last Home Shelter Rivendell. The owner of Rivendell elf Elrond presented them the Sword Threshing the Enemies;
the Supreme Goblin Gollum which called itself “My Beaut… t… ty”;
town Esgarot on Long Lake.

Readers are asked to describe in English the pictures (Elrond, the Supreme Goblin Gollum, Beorn etc.) made by N.N. Kolesnichenko. The map is unusual too. There are some misprints in the book (‘Xobbit’, ‘Beggins’, ‘Dichkes Charles Christmas stories).
