The second hand market number for the Folio LoTR set appears to be in the £2500-£3000 range from what I’ve seen.

The last couple I saw actually sell on FB were circa £2,500 and £2650, IIRC. I think the OP has a fair price. I just don't think there are a huge number of buyers, so he may need to wait around for one to come along, especially selling off-platform. Price sub £2,000 and would likely sell within a day or two. I think there is a bit of a psychological threshold there from what I have seen.
The Hobbits seem to be worth £500 - £600 in terms of consistent sales, with the odd variance either side.

All fair and agreeable points on both the LoTR and Hobbits…I did sell my duplicate copy of the Folio Hobbit to a friend a few months back for around that number range, so can confirm at least in that regard.

There are other factors a seller must consider that may also be overlooked:
1. Time of year. January isnt a great time to sell anything. It is therefore a great time to buy things.
2. Buyer confidence in not getting ripped off. If you don't want to use FB and feed the techno-feudalist monster then you might consider an Escrow service.
3. Make the sell as friendly and helpful as possible. Research and check on the most effective courier service. Try and find out about things like import duty/tax the buyer is liable to have to pay. In other words, offer a personalised service for the buyer without resultling to hard sale tactics.
4. As a seller dont worry about not selling right away. Especially right now we are in a highly inflationary economy. Holding assets like these isnt much of a risk unless you need the money quickly.
Overall, I agree the LotRs is more desirable right now than the Hobbit so selling as separate lots is a good idea. I never bought a hobbit as I didnt really like the LotRs that much.
