For the experts on this forum, have you any suggestions where it is best to sell this lovely piece? Should I go directly through forums, or try an auction site? I had a chat with the local whisky shop here in Oxford and they said that for whiskey auctions, people are more interested in the liquid contents than in the context and history of a piece, which is why I am turning to this forum for help and suggestions.
It’s true that in whiskey auctions people are usually interested in the whiskey; but, no offense to the fine folks at the Oxford Artisan Distillery, having tasted it myself and being a whiskey drinker (though not an expert connoisseur) I still feel comfortable enough to say their Black Pine Whisky is neither highly sought after nor good enough to be something people would bid significant amounts for. If you are going to get high bids it will be for the case, not the whiskey in my opinion.
I’m not an expert on selling novelties like this, but I would guess auction sites would be best if you’re looking to see how high it can go. If you aren’t looking to maximize the number, I’d be interested in it if you want to PM me.
Thank you very much for the input. I'll reach out to some auction sites and see if they'd be interested in selling it, but otherwise I would be happy to sell it directly to a collector here on the site.
I've had a number of PMs expressing interest to buy the bottle, so I'll post some photos here so that all can see, in case others are interested. The bottle is number 8/30. I checked my email receipt and I bought it for £672, and would be happy to sell it at this or any higher price + postage. It is a lovely, heavy-duty case!

My guess is you will easily get back what you paid for it at least, but I am not certain as I have never seen one sell on the secondary market. There are on-line whiskey auction sites, and I did see a bottle of the less rare version (with just the coaster) sell on one not long after it was released for about its original purchase value (I can find it if you cannot, it is one of the better known whiskey auction sites). Maybe also try the FB Tolkien collector's page:
