I recently received the book as a father's day gift June 2026. I can confirm that the print revision #3 has everything fixed, regarding the issues brought up in this thread. I am not sure where my wife got it from, probably Amazon.

Looks like it is time to buy it then.

So I just ordered this in the US directly from Harper Collins (the William Morrow imprint). It’s still a first printing with all the misprints. So here we are in July of 2026 and Harper Collins has known about this error since last year and they are still shipping the misprinted copies to US buyers.

So does that mean that Harper Collins tried to pull all the misprinted copies and just happened to miss this one? Or has Harper Collins known about this for almost a year and has done nothing and is just pushing off these defective copies on their unsuspecting customers in the US?

I am so disappointed. Not to mention - the order included other Tolkien books and Harper Collins packed them no better than Amazon does - so several of them were damaged in shipping.

Such terrible customer service. I’ve also emailed them about my order and I’ve gotten no response.

Edit: I used the chat feature and was quickly connected to a live representative who promptly refunded me for the defective book and indicated they do not have a corrected stock for William Morrow. I appreciated the good customer service, though, I am still left wondering why the defective books have not been addressed on the William Morrow side of things.

It is a bit confusing when HarperCollins is mentioned on the site as both the US and UK publishers are part of HarperCollins.

I think to make it easier to work out which entity is being referenced, you should use HarperCollins to refer to the UK publishers and William Morrow to refer to the US publishers going forward, even if HarperCollins branding is being used on US items.

Thank you, I will do that. I will also edit my post as I got through to their customer service. I was told they do not have a corrected stock for William Morrow and I was promptly provided a full refund with no requirement to return the defective book. I used the chat system and I was connected with a helpful representative (who addressed other issues with my order such as another book with a printing defect and a book damaged in shipping). I thought I'd get an AI chat bot, but I was wrong. It turned out to be the best way to get a hold of customer service.
