I'd buy it, but I already own a copy, and the pen inscription turns me off a bit.

Oh well, then; I s'pose I'd better not mention the previous lot in that auction - a signed FGH, published by Unwin Brothers, 1949. http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auc ... e-id-2854836/lot-13537970

Completely "forgot" to mention that.

I asked for additonal info and got the following from Mark Jones, General Cataloger & Valuer @ Rosebery's

Lot 1011 (Farmer Giles of Ham) - Dust jacket slightly frayed, slight discolouration, overall typical wear. With photographs stuck in, some pages and photographs slightly damaged. Signed but provenance unavailable.

So do you think the signatures are original? I haven't got a clue.

Blimey
Both of these went for £3200 each ! - won by a phone bidder
Anybody won lottery and went for them?
Mar 14, 2012
I was the internet bidder... but plus the auction costs this was too heavy for me! But pushed the price way over my initial limit.
Mar 14, 2012
Yeah bad luck
I was in it for a while but someone on phone clearly wanted them - maybe at any cost?

Ps I blame Sonof Dolf & Garm for advertising it so well !

Hey Beren, you weren't the only internet bidder. I know I had to get up earlier than you to bid on them!! Probably dropped out of bidding earlier as well. Someone really really wanted them!!

I only dropped out on 3000 GBP... that was too crazy already, but I wanted to see how much the telephone bidder wanted to have it. In the end I already had these books one time (I have bought and sold them one time before) so knew them... sort of had hoped to get them back home.
Alas.

There's a lesson to be learnt there Beren...
