I can't wait to get my hands on a single ampersand written by Tolkien.
I know this is a Tolkien forum, but, as a Catholic, I am even more abhorred by the Saint Mother Theresa letter the seller destroyed. It was a Second Class Relic (if genuine, that is). Absolutely sickening.
The first item in the thread is "authenticated" through Beckett (BAS) and the second with the autograph is through PSA. Crazy that either provides a service like this. They must at least have some kind of handwriting or signature "expert?"

It was a real letter, I have updated the summary in our Letters Guide to indicate it has been destroyed.
At least they posted an image of what they destroyed: https://cutwordco.com/blogs/original-d ... tolkien-original-document

Good little article. I hope people who might be tempted by this greedy nonsense pay heed to it.

For what it is worth, I posted this link on Facebook. Don't have that many followers, but it all just makes me sad and upset.
I am very impressed with their cutting.
Tiegmouth (sic), they have very expertly cut off the outh so it actually is Teignem. I assume they are also selling outh as a word.
Not really sure what the $100 payment to Beckett is for 🤦

At this point, why not cut and sell every individual letter? They're selling a single "&", after all. Everything about this is just so mind-bogglingly stupid.
