Books and other printed materials >> The Lord of the Rings: 70th Anniversary Deluxe (signed limited edition)
IF the sales counter is correct, I’d be incredibly surprised if these don’t end up being discounted. I don’t think that will happen soon though. I don’t love the build quality of that clamshell. As a clamshell maker, I can see some shortcuts.

From the unboxing, it sounds like we collectively believe this is the same text block as the 2024 70th Anniversary Deluxe (specifically, the 1st impression of the Harper Collins edition). I'd like to double check an error:
Looking at my 2nd impression of the 2024 70th Deluxe William Morrow edition, I noticed an error on the list of plates in Return of the King. Can someone check if there are two "plate 17" listed on that page? I won't post a picture of mine mainly not to draw attention to a picture of an unrelated edition.
Thank you.
There are 2 in this new edition

Now that I have done the unboxing, I have some comparison images of the three editions below.

- Folio Society Alan Lee Lord of the Rings Limited Edition
- The Lord of the Rings Hardcover – Special Edition October 2024
- The Lord of the Rings: 70th Anniversary Deluxe (signed limited edition) HarperCollins product page for this set.

Great pictures Trotter. Here’s a question, with the placement of the illustration on the clamshell exterior, should it/could it be placed on the shelf vertically like a book ?

Thanks for those photos Trotter, very helpful indeed!
I’ve umm’d and ahhh’d all week whether or not to buy the LE but finally decided not to. The unboxing video from yesterday has confirmed in my own mind that my decision is the correct one and that I’m more than happy with the 2024 edition, especially given the price I paid for it (substantially discounted from the £250 RRP). Whilst I won’t question anyone else’s choice to buy this LE, for me the release does not seem to be worth the ask, by some significant margin. We all make our own choices, this is just my own reckoning! I also thought that my shelves are for displaying books, not clamshell boxes.. :)
Anyway, congrats to all who did receive their copies of the LE, I hope they’re very pleased with them.

Yes, I have it that way on my shelf.

Is this also so that the books are orientated upright inside the clamshell box? Because it is better for the books long-term?
Still no tracking updates for me, and I'm unable to make international calls right now. Would anyone in the UK be willing to call customer service and ask them about the orders that haven't been shipped yet?

I think you are a bit early to start contacting them, as the shipping date was only yesterday. I would wait a week and then try, but you can email them at [email protected], not the normal customer service email.
