Worth noting that this copy has two faults on the slipcase. The thumb hole is missing on one side and the Baynes design is not correctly centred. This specific example has been discussed on FaceBook before - my guess was it was originally a reject box, but it could have simply escaped into the wild with no-one noticing (though that feels odd, given the circumstances surrounding these boxes).
Both these faults should be specifically called-out by the seller, IMHO.

Was The Two Towers bound in a different shade of buckram in this edition, or is this particular copy faded on the spine?

It has been discussed before, but we have no definitive answer as to why in most cases The Two Towers is more faded.

Not every TT has a faded spine, but most do. The cloth often comes loose as well. The missing thumbhole and non-centred covering on the slipcase are not at all normal, though. Only ever seen this one set with these faults.
The centering isn’t fixable, but the thumb hole could be corrected if a buyer so wanted. I just think these issues should be flagged by a professional seller, really, especially at this price point.

Yes, most but not all, the TT in the set I own is not faded.

Yeah, Emilien has a set with zero fading as well. Both of mine have a degree of fading, and I had a third copy that I sold, which was also faded.
I think unfaded examples are the exceptions with these.
Copy of the modern English translation of Ancrene Riwle, in pretty good condition for a 70-year-old book. Author MB Salu. Tolkien wrote the preface, I think Salu was a former student of his or something similar. I have the 2000 edition of the version edited by Tolkien, picked it up without realizing it's still written in Middle English. An academic tome for sure!
