I was cruising Romanian book sites and discovered them. They immediately became my next purchase obsession, but it still took some time to find a Romanian bookseller who both had them for sale and would ship them to the U.S. (Although I think that he overcharged me by a lot for shipping costs.) Since those are the covors of my first LOTR set in the late '60s, I was happy for the trip down memory lane.

That is good news. I imagine your assessment is correct - they were more of a liability than a benefit to the thief.

- The Hobbit (1978, 4th ed. 1st impr. - nothing particularly rare, but I'm falling in love with those GA&U covers... please stop me before it's too late to go back!)
- Beowulf and the Critics (2011, 2nd revised edition) - thanks Emilien for your advice, finally I found it in an Icelandic bookstore
- Beowulf The Legend of a Hero (I bought it because of John Howe's illustrations) - thanks Trotter for your help!
