I thought I would do a thread of the Bakshi Lord of the Rings Movie collectables I have. I don’t have a huge number of items, but I do have a few which people might be interested in seeing.
First up are some of my favourite items in the whole of my Tolkien collection.
These are 2 promotional character standees for the movie. There is Gandalf and Frodo. They are not huge, approx 30cm tall.

Next is a 1980 calendar for the movie. It came in a plastic zip lock bag branded in the bottom right corner. The calendar features 60 illustrations from the movie.
Here we have a Fantasia magazine, issue 3, which is a Tolkien Special. I’m not sure what year this from. It has the classic Fellowship image on the cover. This image was done by artist Mike Ploog and featured on a lot of the movies promotional items.
This is the 6” Vinyl single record of the movie theme, performed by the Aragorn Ballroom Orcestra (yes, with that spelling). It’s a more disco and funky version than the original, very 70s.
These are 2 versions of the classic Gandalf promo poster, both are large posters. One is a British version and the other a German version. There are a few differences, the titles and credits are different, the descriptive details are different and the image on the German version has a brighter colouring.
This is a DVD of the movie which has a more unusual cover. I believe the artwork is of Merry and Pippin after being captured by the Orcs. It was a composite piece of art with the main image done by Louise Zingarelli and the background done by Edwin Hirth. This artwork was used in the original pitch by Bakshi to make the movie. It also features on a few other movie items.
