Arthur Tolkien writes to his father, John Benjamin Tolkien, informing him of life for his family in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State. He mentions the coming Easter weekend and that he will play golf and the family will have a picnic close to the links (golf course). Hilary will be christened tomorrow (Easter Day 1894) and will be named Hilary Arthur Tolkien. They have a "splendid" nurse at home, and he is not especially busy at work.

He has resigned from the cathedral choir to spend more time with Mabel and the boys.
