Rayner Unwin of GA&U writes to Pauline Baynes. The poster of the map of Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings has had enormous success.
Allen & Unwin would like their own poster: 30 x 20 in. entitled A Map of Middle-earth reproduced in four colours; basically map in book ‘but with ample embellishments that would make it an attractive and decorative piece of wall hanging’. Rayner asks if she would be interested and suggests a fee of £150. The original part would be in the embellishments. He knows that Tolkien would be happy with her work, as he is certainly not with that of American artist.
