Rayner Unwin notes that GA&U are delighted with There and Back Again map and that Tolkien is unqualified in his praise. ‘He loved your visit . . . despite the curious incident that accompanied at the Miramar.’

He encloses the initial payment of £150 as agreed in correspondence last November ( Letter from Rayner Unwin to Pauline Baynes • 4 November 1970 (#1258)), and it will be followed by a £50 per reprint fee, and if US takes it another £100.

Puline Baynes wrote on it "Sept. 28 query 2½% royalty on all sales from map".

Pauline noted various Tolkien related matters in her diary: 7 September, 1971: I worked hard after cleaning and then walking dogs – and nearly finished the Hobbit map. - 8 September, 1971: Fritz home to lunch – after which I finished the Tolkien poster. - 9 September, 1971: We went off to Poole – picnic lunch in the New Forest – 2.30 dropped it on the Tolkiens (with chrysanthemums – lettuce etc) and he seemed pleased with the map and okayed it – she told us about the [possibly should be Ld – Christina Scull] Snowdon’s visit to photograph him. - 10 September, 1971: Walking dogs – then Joy phoned and came down to collect the Tolkien map.
