TCG Letter #1445 / Carpenter Letter #162a

Hammond and Scull note that Tolkien's holiday did not take place due to a rail strike, Chronology, p. 481. They also note^{Chronolgy, p. 481.[1]} that Tolkien returns the Houghton Mifflin draft without any comments on it. He also finds it curious that Houghton Mifflin have sent him six copies of The Two Towers, but none of the Fellowship of the Ring. He also says that they had promised him a folder with review clippings, but this has not arrived. As it turns out, Rayner had sent these review clippings to Tolkien, and they arrived later on the same day after he had written this letter.
