Tolkien had written to Gordon^{Date unknown[1]} which Gordon forwards to Sisam. Tolkien had raised points on the [i]Clarendon Chaucer[/footnote], especially the 'Prologue to the Cantebury Tales'.^{Sisam will reply that while he agrees with Tolkien, to include all of this material will be too costly for a student edition of the text.[2]}
