Tolkien sends a letter to his friend George Sayer firstly expressing his sorrow about Sayers wife Moira. She has been very ill of late. He had hoped thay could join himself and Edith at the Eastgate for dinner.

Tolkien gives his reasons for the revisions to The Lord of the Rings - re-establishing copyright, fixing errors, and linking to The Silmarillion. He thanks George for his help in making it happen, with the tape recordings and other assistance.
