TCG Letter #1872

From
C.A. Furth (GA&U)
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
11 May 1937
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Partial
C. A. Furth informs Tolkien that a US publisher is interested in publishing The Hobbit and they would like to add four colour illustrations to the book. They have suggested a good American artist for the work but GA&U feel that it would be better if all of the artwork was from Tolkien's hand. He recalls seeing some more artwork when he visited Tolkien.Noted by Hammond/Scull as "presumably from his visit of 27 February".[1] He asks Tolkien to send five or six of them and GA&U will forward them onto the American publisher.

This letter is held at the Tolkien–George Allen & Unwin archive, at HarperCollins.

1 Noted by Hammond/Scull as "presumably from his visit of 27 February". ↩
