TCG Letter #1988

From
Stanley Unwin
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
11th February 1938
Type
Typed Letter Signed, Manuscript/Proof Document
Transcript
Complete
Stanley Unwin writes that his son Rayner is delighted with the sample chapter from the new book about hobbits. Rayner does wonder if a child who hasn't read The Hobbit would be able to follow it, but Stanley thinks this is easily handled by inserting a few words here and there. The typescript first chapter is returned as an enclosure to Tolkien with this letter.

A copy of this letter from the publisher's files has been seen which is not signed, but it is assumed that the actual letter sent was signed.
