Russell Meiggs (editor of the Oxford Magazine) writes to Tolkien with thanks for a copy of The Hobbit. The letter was described by Meiggs himself as an "uninvited testimonial" on the book, and Tolkien would send a copy to C.A. Furth at GA&U. Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to C.A. Furth • ?9 July 1937 (#1945)[1]

He says that the book will solve his "Christmas problem for a large number" of his god-children.

The letter is held with the Bodleian libraries Tolkien Papers.
